TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com)
– After being selected for All-ACC awards by the Blue Ribbon Panel last
week, Adut Bulgak, Leticia Romero and Shakayla Thomas followed up with more
all-conference honors as announced by the ACC on Monday morning.
Bulgak (All-ACC First Team), Romero (All-ACC Second Team) and Thomas (All-ACC
Freshman Team) were chosen by the league’s 15 head coaches as members of the
2014-15 All-ACC Women’s Basketball Team. All three student-athletes earned the
same honors last week by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Bulgak, a junior center from Edmonton, Canada, leads the Seminoles averaging
12.5 points, 9.7 rebounds and 53 blocks. She has recorded a team-leading 12
double-doubles and has 14 games this season where she has grabbed 10+ rebounds.
In FSU’s ACC Tournament championship game against Notre Dame on Sunday, Bulgak
became just the fifth Seminole to record 300 boards in a season, totaling 301
heading into the NCAA postseason.
Romero is one of four double-figure scorers for Florida State. The Las
Palmas, Spain, native averages 10.3 points, averages five rebounds and is
shooting a team-best 53.6 percent (74-of-138) from the floor. Romero is also
shooting 44.1 percent from 3-point range (15-of-34) has been a vital part to
FSU’s offensive attack since playing in her first game of the season on Dec. 29
against Jacksonville. She was named to the ACC All-Tournament Second Team on
Sunday.
Thomas has been a one of the most productive freshman in program history. The
forward from Sylacauga, Ala., averages 9.9 points off the bench in 19.3 minutes
and was previously honored by the ACC as the league’s sixth player of the year
last week. Thomas has 19 double-figure scoring games this season as well as two
late go-ahead buckets that helped FSU earn a road win at Purdue on Dec. 3 and
vs. Louisville on Jan. 22. Thomas was honored as a member of the ACC
All-Tournament First Team on Sunday.
The Seminoles (29-4) reached the ACC Tournament championship game for the
first time in program history following their win 66-51 win over No. 10
Louisville in the ACC semifinal on March 7. FSU’s 29 wins is tied for the most
in program history, and it will have a chance to post its first 30-win season
ever at the NCAA Tournament.
Florida State is expected to be selected as a host to the NCAA First and
Second Rounds scheduled for March 20-23. The NCAA Tournament Selection Show will
air on Monday, March 16, at 7 p.m. on ESPN. Stay tuned for an announcement this
