#FSUWBB Gets Big Top 25 Road Win at Miami

MIAMI (AP) — Leticia Romero had a career-high 19 points with six assists, five rebounds and three steals and No. 14 Florida State eased away in the second half to defeat No. 16 Miami 69-58 on Sunday.

Shakayla Thomas added 15 points and Ivey Slaughter and Adut Bulgak had 10 each for the Seminoles (16-4, 6-1 ACC), who matched their best-ever start in conference play.

Adrienne Motley had 20 points and Keyona Hayes had 18 for the Hurricanes (17-3, 5-2).

Bulgak's basket on the first possession of the second half broke a 31-31 tie. She followed with two free throws on the next possession and then Romero hit a jumper and the Seminoles never trailed. When Motely cut the lead to one, Romero answered with a 3 and FSU led 49-43 after three quarters.

Florida State made 13 of 25 shots from the floor, 3 of 6 behind the arc, in the second half while Miami was 9 of 26, 1 of 7.

POST-GAME NOTES COMPILED BY FSU SPORTS INFORMATION:

·         Leticia Romero set a season high with 19 points. Previously she had recorded 18 points in three different games this season.

·         FSU shot 52 percent (13-of-25) in the second half, its second consecutive game of shooting 50 percent or more in the final 20 minutes.

·         FSU is now 8-1 this season when four or more players score in double figures. They include Romero (19), Shakayla Thomas(15), Ivey Slaughter (10) and Adut Bulgak (10).

·         The Seminoles now own a 38-12 all-time series lead in what was the 50th meeting between the schools.

·         Sunday’s game was the fourth time both teams met as ranked opponents. FSU is now 3-1 in those Top 25 games.

·         FSU has won eight of its last nine games vs. the Canes.

·         The Seminoles move to 20-2 vs. Florida-based opponents since the 2012-13 season.

·         Sunday’s game was head coach Sue Semrau’s 30th AP Top 25 win as FSU’s head coach.

·         FSU’s 6-1 start in ACC play is now tied for the best seven-game start in program history.

·         Junior guard Brittany Brown became the eighth Seminole to record 200+ steals in her career. She now has 201, tied for seventh in program history.

·         Since 2008-09, FSU is 79-36 in ACC play.

Leticia Romero lideró a Florida State en su triunfo 55-66 contra Pittsburgh. La internacional absoluta con España, que la pasada temporada firmó un triple-doble en la NCAA, igualó su mejor anotación del curso con 18 puntos y selló su noveno partido del curso en dobles figuras.

Por su parte la talentosa Ángela Salvadores no pudo participar en el triunfo 71-51 de Duke contra Boston College por culpa de un esguince.

La novata española había promediado 14,5 puntos, 1,5 rebotes y 3,5 asistencias en sus últimos dos partidos en casa con las 'Blue Devils', con un espectacular 7 de 11 en triples (63,6%) y 11 de 119 (57,9%) en tiros de campo en el Cameron Indoor Stadium.

La 'Petrovic española', que es novata en la NCAA, promedia 11,3 puntos en Duke.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (AP) — Leticia Romero tied her season high with 18 points andAdut Bulgak posted her 17th career double-double to lead No. 16 Florida State over Pitt 66-55 on Sunday.

Bulgak had 11 points and 12 rebounds while Shakayla Thomas added 12 points for the Seminoles (14-4, 4-1 ACC), who dominated scoring in the paint, 40-18.

Brittany Brown's jumper gave FSU its largest lead of 23 points in the third quarter. Pitt scored the first 12 points of the fourth but could only get as close as nine on Cassidy Walsh's 3-pointer with 30 seconds left.

Florida State led from opening minute. Romero and Thomas both scored six points in a 17-2 run that gave the Seminoles a 36-15 lead before Pitt cut it to 13 by halftime, 38-25.

Brenna Wise had 14 points for the Panthers (8-10, 0-5), who have dropped six straight.

POST-GAME NOTES COMPILED BY FSU SPORTS INFORMATION:

·         Romero’s game-high 18 points (7-of-12) also was her season high. She has nine games this season with double figure points.

·         Senior center Adut Bulgak recorded her 17th career double-double, totaling 11 points and 12 rebounds. Bulgak is tied for her third among active players in the ACC in double-doubles, and is tied for the eighth-most in program history.

·         Shakayla Thomas’ 12 points marked her 16th game in double figures this year. She has only one game this season where she did not reach double figures.

·         Florida State forced 20 Pitt turnovers, the 10th time an opponent has committed 20 or more miscues.

·         FSU outscored Pitt 40-18 in points in the paint, tying its season high for points inside in ACC play.

·         The Panthers shot just 34.5 percent from the floor, the ninth FSU opponent to shoot below 35 percent this season.

·         FSU improves to 3-0 all-time against Pitt, and is 11-6 overall against Pennsylvania-based opponents.

·         FSU has started 4-1 in ACC play or better for the ninth time since joining the league in the 1991-92 season.

·         Heading into halftime, junior point guard Leticia Romero tied her season high for points in the first half with 13. She also had 13 first-half points vs. Rutgers on Dec. 3.

·         FSU was keyed by a 19-3 first-half run that stretched a 19-13 lead to a 38-16 advantage in the second period.

Las Selecciones Españolas fueron en 2015 un año más protagonistas en las competiciones internacionales, con 9 medallas), que consolidaron al baloncesto español en los primeros lugares de los rankings oficiales FIB

 Las 9 medallas de este 2015 (5 masculinas y 4 femeninas) elevaron a 131 el total del palmarés de nuestro baloncesto desde 1935, igualando los que hasta este año habían sido los mejores veranos de la historia (2011 y 2013).

El verano se redondeó el domingo 20 de septiembre con la medalla de oro en el EuroBasket absoluto masculino, que marcó además otro récord histórico: los 6.100.000 de telespectadores de audiencia media (44% de cuota de pantalla) convirtieron la final España-Lituania en el partido de baloncesto más visto  de la historia en nuestro país. El ‘minuto de oro’ registró asimismo una maca sin precedentes: 8,5 millones de telespectadores.

Gracias a estos extraordinarios resultados de todos nuestros equipos en casi todas las categorías, el baloncesto español se consolida como uno de los grandes del mundo, sólo por detrás de Estados Unidos y número uno en Europa (tanto en masculino como en femenino). Además, España se está colocando también entre los países más potentes en el formato de baloncesto 3x3.

Un total de 83 jugadores y jugadoras se colgaron las medallas. Leticia Romero, que participó con las selecciones Absoluta y U20, se colgó dos.

Tras este verano 2015, Pau Gasol, Felipe Reyes y Laura Gil se destacaron un poco más en la clasificación de máximos medallistas de la historia de las Selecciones: los tres han conquistado ya nada menos que 12 medallas.

Para el seleccionador Sergio Scariolo fue también un verano histórico: en su retorno al banquillo de España, ha ganado el oro en los tres EuroBasket en que ha participado. En el ranking femenino, Lucas Mondelo y  José Ignacio Hernández igualaron a Carlos Colinas y Evaristo Pérez como entrenadores con más medallas conquistadas al frente de selecciones (6).
