Senior Class Goes for Wins Record at B.C.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – The No. 6/5 Florida State Women’s Basketball (20-2, 8-1) team travels to the Northeast to battle the Boston College Eagles (8-14, 1-8) on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Conte Forum. FSU’s recent No. 5 ranking in Tuesday’s USA Today Sports Poll is its highest ranking ever in either poll.
The game will air on the ACC Network Extra, and will also be broadcast on the free Seminole Gameday App and locally via WQTL 106.1 FM.
Florida State’s senior class consisting of Ivey Slaughter, Brittany Brown, Kai Jamesand Leticia Romero (transferred in 2014) is on the verge of history. They have total 98 career wins as a class, tying the 2010 and 2011 senior classes for the most ever. A win over Boston College would make the 2013 signing class the winningest class in FSU history.
The Seminoles own eight RPI Top 50 wins heading into Thursday’s game, tying for the second-most nationally. UConn (11) leads the way while Baylor (8) and South Carolina (8) are tied for second with FSU.
The last time FSU visited Boston College on Feb. 22, 2015, Leticia Romeroproduced one of the most impressive individual performances in school history. The Las Palmas, Spain, native recorded the program’s second triple-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists in an 86-68 win. Romero did not record a single turnover.Romero is shooting 61.9 percent (13-of-21) in her two career games against B.C. She is also 5-of-8 (62.5 percent) from downtown.Florida State owns the ACC’s longest active win streak at seven games, which includes three AP Top 25 wins. Over the stretch, junior forward Shakayla Thomashas a team-leading 15.9 points per game on 55.7 percent shooting (49-of-88). She has led FSU in scoring in four of the seven games, highlighted by a 24-point, eight-rebound performance against Louisville.Florida State’s current three-game road trip in ACC play is its longest conference road swing since facing UNC, Virginia and Georgia Tech from Jan. 22-Feb. 2, 2006. Over the two games played so far, FSU held Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech to a combined 4-of-22 (18.2 percent) from long range and has forced 21 turnovers per game.Imani Wright played a key role in FSU’s 69-63 win at Georgia Tech in its last game played. The redshirt junior guard went 3-of-4 from downtown and totaled 14 points. Wright has 11 games this season with three or more 3-point field goals, and her 42.6 shooting percentage from outside is 29th nationally.
Brittany Brown recorded a career-best eight steals in FSU’s last meeting with Boston College. It is tied for the second-most in a game in school history. Two individual school records have been made against B.C. - assists (15 by Cheetah Delgado on 2/9/14) and free throws made (15 by Cierra Bravard on 1/27/11).
