No. 6/5 FSU Soars Past Eagles
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. (AP) –Shakayla Thomas scored 20 points to lead No. 6 Florida State to an 85-53 rout of Boston College on Thursday night for its eighth straight win.
Chatrice White added 13 points and Brittany Brown 10 for the Seminoles (21-2, 9-1 Atlantic Coast Conference). Thomas went 10 for 12 from the floor in 22 minutes of action.
Mariella Fasoula scored 14 points and Kelly Hughes 13 for Boston College (8-15, 1-9). It was the Eagles' ninth straight loss.
Relying on their up-tempo style behind solid guard play and balanced scoring, the Seminoles took charge with an 18-6 run to close the opening quarter that pushed them to a 25-13 lead at the break. Imani Wright had five points in the run.
They started the second quarter by outscoring BC 16-4, getting a handful of steals that led to easy transition baskets.
Florida State had nine steals in the opening half, forced BC into 12 turnovers and led 43-21 at intermission.
At times, it looked like the Seminoles were laying off the Eagles' ball handler and simply looking to intercept passes.
Florida State pushed its lead to 31 points after three quarters.

• Florida State’s senior class consisting of Brittany Brown, Ivey Slaughter, Kai James and Leticia Romero sets the record for most wins by a senior class. The group now has 99 wins, eclipsing the 2010 and 2011 senior classes (98 wins each).
• Shakayla Thomas’ 10-of-12 performance (83.3 percent) is tied for the 12th-best single-game shooting percentage in FSU history. Thomas’ 9-of-10 (90 percent) game vs. Murray State on Dec. 19, 2015, is tied for the fifth best.
• Thomas added a career-best five steals.
• Brittany Brown’s 10 points marks her ninth double-figure game this season.
• Junior center Chatrice White picked up her third double-double at FSU with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
• Senior Leticia Romero dished out seven assists with just one turnover. As a team, FSU recorded 16 assists to just nine turnovers.
• FSU shot 50 percent from the floor (32-of-64) while holding B.C. to 39.6 percent (21-of-53).
• For the fourth time this season, FSU committed less than 10 turnovers with just nine.
• FSU out-rebounded B.C. 43-25 overall, especially at 16-6 on the offensive glass.
• FSU extends its win streak to eight games, the longest active streak in the ACC. It previously held a 12-game win streak earlier this season, which is tied for the longest in program history.
• The Seminoles improve to 19-4 over their last 23 ACC road games.
• FSU is 9-1 in the ACC for the third time in program history, joining the 2008-09 team (started 11-1) and the 2014-15 team (started 9-1).
• The Seminoles remain tied with the 2014-15 team for what is the best 23-game record in program history (21-2).
• FSU improves to 14-1 all-time against Boston College, having won each of the last eight matchups.
