TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – One of Florida State Women’s Basketball’s biggest non-conference matchups of the 2015-16 season will be seen before a national audience as the Basketball Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase vs. Connecticut will air on ESPN2 on Friday, Dec. 11. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. EST at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
Over the last two seasons, Florida State Women’s Basketball has played in 33 games that have aired on one of ESPN’s media platforms – ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3. During that same time span, 48 of FSU’s last 70 games have been televised nationally or regionally, equating to nearly 70 percent of its games from the last two years.

In FSU’s record-breaking campaign from last year where it reached the NCAA Elite Eight for the second time, its final six games aired nationally or regionally on TV. FSU defeated No. 10 Louisville in the ACC semifinals (66-51 on ESPNU), lost to Notre Dame in the ACC Championship (58-71 on ESPN), defeated Alabama State in the NCAA First Round (91-49 on ESPN2), defeated No. 20 FGCU in the second round (65-47 on ESPNU), edged No. 9 Arizona State in the NCAA Sweet 16 (66-65 on ESPN2) and fell to No. 3 South Carolina in the Elite Eight (74-80 on ESPN).

The matchup vs. the Huskies is one of four for FSU involving an NCAA Tournament opponent from last season on the non-conference. The Seminoles face Tulane on Thursday, Nov. 19, in their home opener. In the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, FSU hosts Rutgers on Thursday, Dec. 3. NCAA Sweet 16 opponent Arizona State hosts the Seminoles on Monday, Dec. 21, following FSU’s 66-65 nail-biter in last year’s regional semifinals.

The Seminoles return a strong core group from their NCAA Elite Eight team last season, retaining 87.4 percent of their blocked shots, 72.9 percent of their rebounding, 71.1 percent of their scoring and 71.5 percent of their field goals made. Senior All-America center Adut Bulgak and junior All-America point guard Leticia Romero headline the returnees, while ACC Sixth Player of the Year and all-freshman team member Shakayla Thomas also returns.
