Odyssey Sims (Baylor) and Leticia Romero (K-State) were selected
for Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball weekly awards, as chosen by a
media panel. Sims earned her 14th career award and ninth player of the
week recognition, including the seventh this season. Romero picked up
her fourth freshman accolade.

Sims averaged 38.5 points, 6.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals in
Baylor’s two games last week. She shot 43.9 percent from the floor and
69.7 percent from the free
throw line. The senior guard tallied 38 points, which included four
treys and 10 free throws, nine assists and four steals in a win over
Oklahoma. She followed that performance with 39 points, four assists,
three rebounds and two steals in a two-point loss to West Virginia. With
2,355 points, Sims moved up to No. 5 on the Big 12’s career scoring
chart, passing Kansas State’s Kendra Wecker. She is averaging a
nation’s-best 30.2 points per game.

Romero averaged 22.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.5 steals
in K-State’s win at Kansas and five-point loss at Oklahoma State after
being down by 13 at the half. She scored 26 points versus Kansas on a
career-best 10-of-16 shooting effort, along with eight rebounds, seven
assists and three steals. It was the 13th game this season that Romero
was responsible for 50 percent or more of K-State’s made field goals.
The rookie registered 19 points, four rebounds, four assists, four
steals and a block at Oklahoma State. With her 19 points, she became the
fourth freshman in school history, and the first since the 2001-02
season, to reach the 400-point mark. Romero is the only freshman in the
Big 12, the first freshman at K-State and one of two freshman guards in
NCAA Division I with 400 or more points, 100 or more rebounds and 100 or
more assists.
