Romero Earns Big 12 Freshman of the Week Honor

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State’s Leticia Romero strung together one of her strongest weeks of the season for K-State, helping the Wildcats to a road win at its rival Kansas. For her efforts, she was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season. She is the first Wildcat in school history to be named Big 12 Freshman of the Week four times.

Romero, the league’s top freshman scorer and passer, approached a triple-double with 26 points on a career-best 10-of-16 shooting and a 4-of-6 effort from the foul line, eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals. This was the 13th game this season that Romero was responsible for 50 percent or more of K-State’s made field goals.

At Oklahoma State, Romero registered 19 points, four rebounds, four assists, four steals and a block. With her 19 points, she became the fourth freshman in school history and the first since the 2001-02 season to reach the 400-point mark. She is the only freshman in the Big 12, the first freshman in school history and one the only freshman guard in NCAA Division I with 400 or more points, 100 or more rebounds, 100 or more assists and 50 or more steals.

For the season, Romero leads K-State in scoring (14.5 ppg), rebounds (5.7 rpg), assists (4.7 apg) and steals (1.9 spg). Romero is the only freshman in the Big 12 to average 10 or more points, 5.5 or more rebounds, 4.5 or more assists and 1.5 or more steals. She has reached double figures in scoring 20 times this season, has pulled in five or more rebounds 17 times and has handed out five or more assists 14 times.
