TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State Women’s Basketball student-athletes Shakayla Thomas and Leticia Romero were both recognized on Tuesday afternoon after being selected to the Blue Ribbon Panel All-ACC First Team, announced by the conference.
Junior forward Thomas earns her second straight All-ACC First Team honor, while senior point guard Romero gets her second All-ACC award and her first on the first team.
Thomas and Romero become the ninth and 10th Seminoles to earn All-ACC honors multiple times. They join a list of distinguished FSU players that include Cierra Bravard, Adut Bulgak, Latavia Coleman, Natasha Howard, Jacinta Monroe, Tasheika Morris-Allen, Brooke Wyckoff and Courtney Ward.
Thomas has put together another outstanding season with Florida State, adding to her conference hardware after already being a two-time ACC Sixth Player of the Year and an All-ACC Freshman Team member. Thomas leads FSU with 14.8 points per game while averaging 5.4 rebounds and shooting 50.6 percent (179-of-354) from the floor.
The Sylacauga, Ala., native has elevated her numbers in conference play, averaging 15.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and shooting 54.3 percent from the floor (94-of-173). Against FSU’s current Top 25 RPI opponents that include UConn, Notre Dame, Texas, Miami, Duke and Louisville, Thomas is averaging 18.0 points and 7.1 boards.
Romero is currently the only player in the nation who is shooting 50 percent from the floor (50.4 percent), 50 percent from 3-point range (52.7 percent) and 90 percent from the free throw line (93.8 percent). She is averaging 12.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists.
The Las Palmas, Spain, native leads the ACC in free throw percentage and 3-point field goal percentage. Four of her six career 20-point performances have come this season, including a career-high 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting against No. 25 Gonzaga at the Paradise Jam. Romero was named the Paradise Jam MVP after a superb three-game performance against Winthrop, Gonzaga and Michigan.
