Leticia Romero Eligible to Compete with FSU Women's Hoops

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Sophomore point guard transfer Leticia Romero has been granted immediate eligibility by the National Collegiate Athletic Association and is allowed to compete for the Florida State Women’s Basketball program immediately.
Romero is eligible to play beginning in Florida State’s next game against Jacksonville on Monday, Dec. 29, at 7 p.m. The Las Palmas, Spain, native has three years of student-athlete eligibility remaining.
The Seminoles (12-1) have already gotten off to a strong start this season, and Romero’s presence gives Florida State another player who has proven to be extremely effective at the collegiate level. In Romero’s freshman season at Kansas State in the 2013-14 year, she led the Wildcats in 10 offensive and defensive categories. She was the only freshman at the NCAA Division I level to record 400 or more points, 100 or more rebounds, 100 or more assists and 50 steals.
In her lone season at Kansas State, Romero averaged 14.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, five assists and shot nearly 40 percent from 3-point range (39.2 percent). Despite not competing yet in regular-season competition for FSU this year, Romero has practiced with FSU since the team’s October 5 start date.
Romero made huge strides in her playing career this past fall when she earned a spot on the Spanish Women’s National Team and competed alongside former Seminole Leo Rodriguez at the FIBA World Championship in Turkey. Spain finished second in the tournament to the United States. Romero has extensive playing experience with Spain’s age-based championship teams, including the Under-20 team this past summer.
