Leticia Romero selected the top Spaniard playing abroad in last week's games

Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Spaniards who are currently playing abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is an international guard Leticia Romero (173-95, college:Florida St., currently plays in Czech Republic). She led USK Praha to an easy victory against the league outsider U19 Chance (0-3) crushing them 125-44 in the Czech Republic ZBL in Sunday night's game. Romero scored 15 points, had 5 boards, passed 8 assists and added 7 steals in a mere 19 minutes on the court; quite an impressive performance considering it's only her first season in pro basketball. ZVVZ USK Praha (3-0) is placed third in the ZBL. So far her team won all three games in the Regular Season. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Romero has relatively good stats this year: 10.3ppg, 3.0rpg, 6.3apg, 4.3spg, 2FGP: 68.8%(11-16), 3FGP: 33.3% in three games she played so far. She is currently a member of the Spanish senior national team.

Marta Xargay Casademont

   #2. Second place goes to an international point guard Marta Xargay Casademont (181-90, currently plays in Czech Republic) is a teammate of previously mentioned Leticia Romero. But that was another game of her team in Czech Republic ZBL which we would like to mention. Xargay Casademont led USK Praha to an easy victory against the tenth-ranked Karlovy Vary (0-3) crushing them 117-34. She scored 15 points, grabbed 4 boards, dished 6 assists and stole 3 balls (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). ZVVZ USK Praha (3-0) is placed third in the ZBL. So far her team won all three games in the Regular Season. This season Xargay Casademont has relatively solid stats: 10.7ppg, 3.3rpg, 4.3apg, 3.3spg, 2FGP: 46.7%, 3FGP: 28.6% and FT: 92.3%. She is in the roster of the Spanish senior national team.

   #3. The Spanish player who performed third best last week abroad was U20 international point guard Angela Salvadores (178-97, agency: ProDep Management, college: Duke, currently plays in Hungary). She contributed to a Sopron Basket's victory against the sixth-ranked Miskolc (1-1) 79-65 in the Hungarian A Division in Monday night's game. Salvadores scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. It was her first game for Sopron Basket this season. Her team is placed first in the A Division. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. It's Salvadores' first year with the team. She is also a member of the Spanish U20 national team.

   #4. Guard Leonor Rodriguez Manso (180-91, college: Florida St., currently plays in Poland) helped Wisla Krakow win their game against the league outsider Widzew (0-2) crushing them 92-43 in the Polish BLK on Saturday night. Rodriguez Manso scored 9 points and added 5 passes. Wisla CANPACK Krakow (1-1) is placed eighth in the BLK. It's Rodriguez Manso's first season with the team. She has reliable stats this year: 13.0ppg, 2.0rpg and 4.5apg. Rodriguez Manso is also Spanish national team player.

   #5. International swingman Queralt Casas (177-92, currently plays in France) led Basket Landes to a victory over the closely-ranked Nice (1-1)57-50 in the French LFB in Wednesday night's game. She was MVP of the game. Casas scored 10 points, grabbed 8 boards, dished 4 assists and stole 3 balls in 27 minutes. Basket Landes (1-1) is placed seventh in the LFB. This year Casas averages: 10.0ppg, 8.0rpg, 4.0apg and 3.0spg in two games. She used to play for the Spanish national team last year.

   #6. Point guard Mariona Ortiz (183-92, currently plays in Belgium) managed to help BC Belfius Namur Capitale to win against the league outsider RBC Verviers Peinster (0-4) crushing them 84-49 in the Belgian Top Division Women last Sunday. Ortiz recorded 5 points and added 8 passes. BC Belfius Namur Capitale (2-2) is placed sixth in the Top Division Women. Ortiz's stats this season are: 12.0ppg, 3.8rpg, 5.0apg and 2.3spg. She is a former U20 international player as she played for the Spanish team five years ago.

   #7. Former U20 international guard Tania Perez Torres (183-91, currently plays in Poland) helped Sleza Wroclaw win their game against the closely-ranked MKK Siedlce (1-1) crushing them 91-65 in the Polish BLK on Friday night. Perez Torres scored only 2 points in 12 minutes. It was her first game for Sleza Wroclaw this season. Her team is placed fourth in the BLK. Perez Torres used to play for the Spanish U20 national team six years ago.

   #8. Point guard Cristina Ouvina (173-90, currently plays in France). She could not help Bourges (0-1) to beat Tarbes (1-1). Ouvina scored 6 points, made 3 passes and 4 steals. It was her first game for Bourges this season. Bourges was defeated 71-61 on the road by the higher-ranked Tarbes (#9). Ouvina used to play for the Spanish national team last year.

   #9. Former U20 international point guard Ana Suarez (170-87, also represented by ProDep Management, currently plays in France) was not able to help Tarbes in their game against Lyon (1-1) in the French LFB. Suarez recorded 5 points. Tarbes was crushed 74-45 on the opponent's court by the higher-ranked Lyon (#3). Suarez's overall stats this season are: 4.5ppg, 2.0apg and 1.5spg. She used to play for the Spanish U20 national team ten years ago.

Rebeca Navarro

   #10. Guard Rebeca Navarro (180-95, college: Robert Morris, currently plays in United Kingdom) helped Riders win their game against the seventh-ranked Crusaders (0-1) crushing them 61-35 in the British WBBL on Sunday night. She recorded 6 points in only 12 minutes. It was her first game for Riders this season. Her team is placed second in the WBBL. Navarro is a former U20 international player as two years ago she still played for the Spanish national team.


The list of other players, who all have Spanish passport but never been selected to any of Spanish national teams:

   #1. Experienced Laura Garcia (176-G-81, agency: ProDep Management, currently plays in France). Garcia could not help one of league's weakest teams Hainaut (1-1) to beat Flammes (1-1). She scored 9 points, made 6 passes and 5 steals in 28 minutes. But Hainaut lost 77-85 on the road to the higher-ranked (#5) Flammes. But the season just started, so everything may happen. It's Garcia's sixth year with the team. This season Garcia's overall stats are: 9.5ppg, 2.5rpg, 3.5apg and 2.5spg in two games she played so far.

   #2. Victoria Vine (173-G-95, college: Eckerd, currently plays in Belgium) was not able to help Laarne(0-4) in their last game. Despite Vine's very good performance Laarne was crushed 95-69 at home by the leading Declercq Stortbeton. She was the top scorer with 28 points. Vine also added 6 rebounds in 35 minutes; not bad, considering it's only her first season in pro basketball. So far Laarne lost all four games in the Regular Season. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. It's Vine's first year with the team. Vine has individually a very good season with high stats. She averages: 19.5ppg and 3.5rpg in four games.

   #3. Aba Santana-Gonzalez contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Durham (0-1) crushing them 92-37 in the British WBBL last Saturday. She recorded 7 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists in only 10 minutes. It was her first game for Hatters this season. Her team is placed fifth in the WBBL.

   #4. Deborah Rodriguez (187-C-89, currently plays in United Kingdom) is a teammate of previously mentioned Aba Santana-Gonzalez and both played together in the last British WBBL game. Rodriguez managed to help Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters in a victory against the closely-ranked Durham (0-1) crushing them 92-37. She recorded 5 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks in 16 minutes. It was her first game for Hatters this season.

   #5. Isabel Bueriberi (182-PF-95, currently plays in United Kingdom) contributed to Mystics' victory against the ninth-ranked Team Northumbria (0-1) 79-74 in the British WBBL last Sunday. Bueriberi recorded only 2 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. It was her first game for Mystics this season. Her team is placed third in the WBBL. Bueriberi has been at the team for four years.

   #6. Noelia Quintas (185-G-87, college: ORU, currently plays in United Kingdom) faced previously mentioned Aba Santana-Gonzalez in the British WBBL last game. Quintas was not able to secure a victory for Durham in their game against Hatters. She cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. Quintas recorded only 2 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. It was her first game for Durham this season. Her team was crushed by 55 points 92-37.

   #7. Angela Escobar (168-G-91, currently plays in Norway) couldn't help one of league's weakest teams Gimle Pride in their game against Asker in the Norwegian Kvinneligaen. Escobar cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. She scored only 2 points in 15 minutes. Her team was crushed by 34 points 67-33. Escobar's stats this year are: 10.3ppg, 4.7rpg, 3.0apg and 3.0spg in three games.
